The
San Diego Chargers'
first-team offense outplayed the San Francisco's top offensive unit,
but the 49ers emerged with a 21-7 win Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa
Clara, Calif. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers completed nine of 10 passes for 85 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown toss to tight end
Antonio Gates that produced the only scoring of the first quarter. Running back
Marion Grice gained 36 yards on seven carries for San Diego (1-2). Quarterback Colin Kaepernick completed half of his 12 passes for 59 yards and ran twice for 13 yards. Running back
Glenn Winston
led San Francisco (1-2) with eight carries for 58 yards, including a
27-yard touchdown run that capped the scoring in the fourth quarter. Bengals 19, Cardinals 13
Terence Newman's
54-yard interception return resulted in the game's initial points in
the first quarter, and Cincinnati never trailed in a win over Arizona at
Glendale, Ariz. The Cardinals tied the game at 13-13 with 10
unanswered points in the third quarter, capped by a 30-yard touchdown
pass from Drew Stanton to wide receiver John Brown, but two field goals
by Cincinnati kicker Quinn Sharp provided the only fourth-quarter
points. Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton completed 13 of 21
passes for 157 yards. Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer went 7-for-19
for 92 yards and an interception.
